DRAGONBORN, ENGLAND
1600 BC

The map, carved into the white cliffs and coloured with red and black pigment, could be seen from halfway across the sea on a clear day. It described the coastline of the entire island and everything found within. The tin mines and blue mountains of the west. The wild, wind-swept islands of the far north. The chalk-cliffed coastline of the south. The flat fens and moors of the east. The cartographer who had designed this map had missed nothing. The sea battered the white cliffs, and the wind howled, and the seasons passed, but they did not erase the map which stood as a welcome to all visitors to these isles, a waypoint for travellers and traders to set them on the right path. Whoever had drawn it was a master of their art.

They say that just one night with Evan Dragonborn is enough to rob a woman of her heart forever, though Evan hasn't looked at a woman for years. Not since his wife died and left him and their daughter, Veya, alone. He spends his days working as the village blacksmith, his time as a great mapmaker behind him, and his nights dreaming of a life when he was happy. And he doesn't let his daughter out of his sight.

Then a terrible sickness comes to Dragonborn. When Evan wakes from it Veya is gone, stolen by Minoan traders and borne away on their ship, across the Mediterranean sea.

Evan will stop at nothing to get his daughter back. His journey takes him deep into the Mediterranean and beyond, from the furthest reaches of the Hittite Empire to Bronze Age Egypt and the shining palaces of Crete. But not everyone wants to help Evan find Veya. There are those with their own ambitions to fulfil in the service of a great king, and Evan's talents as a mapmaker have not gone unnoticed. Evan will learn he can trust no one, even when they have promised him the world...
